Directions: Find a song that you believe captures the meaning of a scene we have reviewed in Othello. At this point, Othello has gone through a range of emotions, quickly moving from a trusting husband to a murderous villain with plans to kill both Cassio and Desdemona. We have also see Othello and Iago swear to work in allegiance together. Additionally, we have reviewed topics on reputation, the ability to control emotion, and revenge. With so many terrific themes to work with, you should be able to pick out a great song for this project.

I chose "high school never ends" by bowling for soup as my song to represent the plot of Othello. After discussing typical high school scenerios about reputation and reasons why someone would get involved in a situation they had nothing to do with in class, I saw the relation in Othello. The importance of "reputation, reputation, reputation!" is repeated throuhgout the play and is obviously important in high school. Iago is the one getting too involved in Othello's case when Cassio holds the position Iago longs for. Iago vows to get revenge, a typical scenerio of something that would happen in high school. This song may not relate to a specific scene in the play, but the lyrics do capture an overall theme that "nothing changes but the faces, the names and the trends".

Check Yes Juliet By We the Kings
Check yes Juliet
Are you with me?
Rain is falling down on the sidewalk
I won't go until you come outside.
Check yes Juliet
Kill the limbo
I'll keep tossing rocks at your window
There's no turning back for us tonight.
Lace up your shoes
Eh Oh Eh Ohhh
Here's how we do:
Run, baby, run
Don't ever look back.
They'll tear us apart
If you give them the chance.
Don't sell your heart.
Don't say we're not meant to be.
Run, baby, run.
Forever we'll be
You and me.
Check yes Juliet
I'll be waiting
Wishing, wanting
Yours for the taking.
Just sneak out
And don't tell a soul goodbye.
Check yes Juliet
Here's the countdown
3... 2... 1... now fall in my arms now
They can change the locks
Don't let them change your mind
Lace up your shoes
Eh Oh Eh Ohhh
Here's how we do
Run, baby, run
Don't ever look back
They'll tear us apart
If you give them the chance
Don't sell your heart
Don't say we are not meant to be
Run baby run
Forever we'll be
You and me
We're flying through the night
We're flying through the night
Way up high,
The view from here is getting better with
You by my side
Run baby run
Don't ever look back
They'll tear us apart
If you give them the chance
Don't sell your heart
Don't say we are not meant to be
Run baby run
Forever we'll be...
Run baby run
Don't ever look back
They'll tear us apart
If you give them the chance
Don't sell your heart
Don't say we are not meant to be
Run baby run
Forever we'll be
You and me
You and me
You and me
This song Check Yes Juliet relates to the play Othello directly. During the play Othello marries a girl Desdemona while her dad is sleeping. When he finds out he immediately tries to split them up. This song is about someone trying to split up a couple or keep them away from eachother. It occurs quite often in the play as Brabantio tries to seperate Desdemaona and Othello and then when Iago tries to make it seem like Desdemona is betraying and cheating on Othello with Cassio. Iago is telling Othello these lies so Iago can move up to lt. Iago or even general. Its Iagos way of revenge.

Blink 182 I Miss You
Hello there, the angel from my nightmare
The shadow in the background of the morgue
The unsuspecting victim of darkness in the valley
We can live like Jack and Sally if we want
Where you can always find me
We'll have Halloween on Christmas
And in the night we'll wish this never ends
We'll wish this never ends
Don't waste your time on me you're already
The voice inside my head (I miss you miss you)
Don't waste your time on me you're already
The voice inside my head (I miss you miss you)
Where are you and I'm so sorry
I cannot sleep I cannot dream tonight
I need somebody and always
This sick strange darkness
Comes creeping on so haunting every time
And as I stared I counted
Webs from all the spiders
Catching things and eating their insides
Like indecision to call you
and hear your voice of treason
Will you come home and stop this pain tonight
Stop this pain tonight
Don't waste your time on me you're already
The voice inside my head (miss you miss you)
Don't waste your time on me you're already
The voice inside my head (miss you miss you)
Don't waste your time on me you're already
The voice inside my head (I miss you miss you)
Don't waste your time on me you're already
The voice inside my head (I miss you miss you)
The song I miss You by Blink 182 represents how Othello feels about Desdemona cheating on him. In the second verse of the song, the song has a significant quote saying "I cannot sleep I cannot dream tonight". The quote is significant because Othello is a victim of not being able to sleep since he thinks Desdemona has cheated on him. Another significant quote is "and hear your voice of treason." The quote is relevant to Othello's situation because he feels betrayed by Desdemona. Othello is so betrayed, he now has zero trust in Desdemona. In the end, Othello does fit into the song I Miss You because of his emotions towards Desdemona.
Dan Casey AtreyuA Song For The Optimists
Blow the last candle out.
Let the wax harden.
I wish I could stop crying.
I wish that someone still loved me.
I wish that someone still loved me.
Just breathe and focus.
How can I when the air is so cold and empty,
That my lungs froze right in my chest?
I'll be honest
The silver linings are getting harder and harder to manufacture,
And the smiles are so difficult to fake.
I'll be honest
The silver linings are getting harder and harder to manufacture,
And the smiles are becoming so difficult for me to fake.
What do I have to do
Or who do I have to kill,
To get what I want... What I need?
What do I have to do
Or who do I have to kill,
To get what I want... What I need?
Happiness is an emotion
I was born to this world without.
Nothing pleases me.
I can never be satiated.
Through this toil I will breed my own distress
And destroy my best hopes;
F* up the only things (that I love).
I watched my aspirations crash into the ground
On the backs of the angels that I've slain.
But I meant so well;
I tried so hard;
Gave every bit of my soul;
To what end?
To what end?
The song "A Song For the Optimists" by Atreyu represents Roderigo's desires and attempts to be with Desdemona. During the song, the singer states that "the silver linings are getting harder and harder to manufacture", which is true for Roderigo, as he becomes more desperate over not having Desdemona, and even becomes somewhat suicidal over the fiasco. As the song progresses, the singer questions the listeners what he has to do, or who he has to kill to get what he wants, which is parallel to how willing Roderigo is to ruin another person's life (Cassio's) in order to get Desdemona. In the end, however, Roderigo, despite his hardest efforts, is killed and dies, which relates to the end of the song, where it's asked what the point of even making an attempt was. The last four words of the song, "Desolation, desire, exhale, pass away" are descriptions of how Roderigo is portrayed. He is so lonely and longing for the love of Desdemona, then after he takes a single breath, he is murdered by Cassio, after attempting to kill him. Roderigo fits this song's meaning in a few senses, since he doesn't appear happy due to his lack of affection from Desdemona.
Kevin Burkett Chuck WillisMy Story Lyrics:
Nobody cares.
Nobody knows.
I'm going to tell you,
Just how my story goes.
I lost my baby. Where is my baby?
She's the one I love.
Here I stand,
With my eyes full of tears.
So brokenhearted
I just don't wanna live.
Where is my baby?
I love my baby.
She's the one I love.
Nights have passed,
So many days gone by,
And I'm so lonesome,
All I do is cry.
My luck is changin',
And my time is runnin' low.
I'm wondrin' will I see
My baby any more?
Here I stand,
With my eyes full of tears.
So brokenhearted
I just don't wanna live.
I'm going crazy.
Where is my baby?
She's the one I love.
[Instrumental break.]
Here I stand,
With my eyes full of tears.
So brokenhearted
I just don't wanna live.
I'm going crazy.
Where is my baby?
She's the one I love.
The song "My Story" describes Roderigo perfectly after the scuffle with Cassio. Roderigo comes to Iago after being torn apart by Cassio's druken fight. He tells Iago that he is packing up and leaving because he has lost Desdemona, in his head. He feels so demoralized and that life is not even worth living without Desdemona. The lines, "Here I stand, with my eyes full of tears. So brokenhearted I just don't wanna live. Where is my baby? I love my baby. She's the one I love," capture the way Roderigo thinks about his life without the one he loves, Desdemona. Also the songs emotional beat runs right along with the depressed mood of Roderigo, the song has a sort of pitiful beat and lyrics. She obviously has left and is not interested in being with him and just like Roderigo Chuck can not get the idea she has left for someone else and begins going crazy.
I'm doin' this tonight,
You're probably gonna start a fight.
I know this can't be right.
Hey baby come on,
I loved you endlessly,
When you weren't there for me.
So now it's time to leave and make it alone
I know that I can't take no more
It ain't no lie
I wanna see you out that door
Baby, bye, bye, bye...
Bye Bye
Don't wanna be a fool for you
Just another player in your game for two
You may hate me but it ain't no lie,
Baby, bye, bye, bye...
Bye Bye
Don't really wanna make it tough,
I just wanna tell you that I had enough.
It might sound crazy,
But it ain't no lie,
Baby, bye, bye, bye
(Oh, Oh)
Just hit me with the truth,
Now, girl you're more than welcome to.
So give me one good reason,
Baby come on
I live for you and me,
And now I really come to see,
That life would be much better once you're gone.
I know that I can't take no more
It ain't no lie,
I wanna see you out that door
Baby, bye, bye, bye...
Bye Bye
Don't wanna be a fool for you
Just another player in your game for two
You may hate me but it ain't no lie,
Baby Bye, bye, bye...
Bye Bye
Don't really wanna make it tough,
I just wanna tell you that I had enough (ooh ooh)
It might sound crazy,
But it ain't no lie,
Baby, bye, bye, bye
I'm giving up I know for sure
I don't wanna be the reason for your love no more
Bye Bye
I'm checkin' out
I'm signin' off
Don't wanna be the loser and I've had enough
Don't wanna be your fool
In this game for two
So I'm leavin' you behind
Bye, bye, bye...
I don't wanna make it tough (wanna make it tough)
But I had enough
And it ain't no lie (Bye, bye baby...)
Bye, Bye
Don't wanna be a fool for you
Just another player in your game for two (I don't wanna be your fool)
But it ain't no lie
Baby bye, bye, bye...
Don't really wanna make it tough (don't really wanna make it tough),
I just wanna tell you that I had enough (that I had enough).
Might sound crazy,
But it ain't no lie,
Bye, bye, bye
The song "Bye Bye Bye" describes Othello's emtions when Iago tells him that Desdemona has been cheating on him with Cassio. Othello begins to lose his mind and becomes so paranoid that everyone knows about this affair, except him. This emotion is captured by the line, "I don't want to be a fool for you" because it describes how Othello did not want Desdemona to make a fool of him by making him appear oblivious to her affair. Othello is so caught off guard by the thought of Desdemona lying to him, which is expressed in the line, "Just hit me with the truth, now, girl you're more than welcome to." He is so confused and heartbroken when Iago shares this news with Othello that he has "had enough" and cannot take it anymore. Othello comes up with a plan to murder Desdemona, which can be symbolized in this song when it says, "Bye bye bye."

Breakeven by The Script
I'm still alive but I'm barely breathing
Just prayed to a god that I don't believe in
Cos I got tI'me while she got freedom
Cos when a heart breaks no it don't break even
Her best days will be some of my worst
She finally met a man thats gonna put her 1st
While I'm wide awake she's no trouble sleeping
Cos when a heart breaks no it don't breakeven
What am I suppose to do when the best part of me was always you
What am I suppose to say when I'm all choked up and your ok
I'm falling to pieces
I'm falling to pieces
They say bad things happen for a reason
But not wise words gonna stop the bleeding
Cos she's moved on while I'm still grieving
Cos when a heart breaks no it don't breakeven
What am I suppose to do when the best part of me was always you
What am I suppose to say when I'm all choked up and your ok
I'm falling to pieces
I'm falling to pieces
(One still in love while the other ones leaving
Cos when a heart breaks no it don't breakeven)
You got his heart and my heart and none of the pain
You took your suitcase, I took the blame.
Now I'm tryna make sense of what little remains
Cos you left me with no love, no love to my name.
I'm still alive but I'm barely breathing
Just prayed to a god that I don't believe in
Cos I got tI'me while she got freedom
Cos when a heart breaks no it don't break even
What am I gonna do when the best part of me was always you
What am I suppose to say when I'm all choked up and your ok
I'm falling to pieces
I'm falling to pieces
(One still in love while the other ones leaving
Cos when a heart breaks no it don't breakeven)
"Breakeven" by The Script is extremely comparable to the feelings of Othello at this point in the play. This song talks about how in the event of a break-up one person is always is affected more than the other. Clearly, Othello is "falling to pieces" after Iago tells him of Des and Cassio's alleged affair. From Othello's perspective, Des doesn't seem to care that she's hurting Othello. "She got his heart and my heart and none of the pain." In reality though, Des is not even aware of what is going through Othello's mind. Othello does not even know what to do with himself. Even after Iago plants the seed and then attempts to "comfort" Othello, "no wise words can stop the bleeding". Othello loves Des so much that he cannot emotionally handle her being with someone else. "One still in love while the other one's leaving."
"Do I" by Luke Bryan Jack Crescenzo
"Do I"
Baby, what are we becoming
It feels just like we're always running
Rollin' through the motions every day
I could lean in to hold you
Or act like I don't even know you
Seems like you could care less either way
What happened to that girl I used to know
I just want us back to the way we were before
Chorus:
Do I turn you on at all when I kiss you, baby
Does the sight of me wanting you drive you crazy
Do I have your love, am I still enough
Tell me don't I, or tell me do I, baby
Give you everything that you ever wanted
Would you rather just turn away and leave me lonely
Do I just need to give up and get on with my life
Baby, do I?
Remember when we didn't have nothin'
But a perfect, simple kind of lovin'
Baby, those sure were the days
There was a time our love ran wild and free
Now I'm second guessing everything I see
Do I turn you on at all when I kiss you, baby
Does the sight of me wanting you drive you crazy
Do I have your love, am I still enough
Tell me don't I, or tell me do I, baby
Give you everything that you ever wanted
Would you rather just turn away and leave me lonely
Do I just need to give up and get on with my life
Baby, do I
Still give you what you need
Still take your breath away
Light up a spark way down deep
Baby, do I?
Do I turn you on at all when I kiss you, baby
Does the sight of me wanting you drive you crazy
Do I have your love, am I still enough
Tell me don't I, or tell me do I, baby
Give you everything that you ever wanted
Would you rather just turn away and leave me lonely
Do I just need to give up and get on with my life
Tell me baby, do I get one more try
Do I?
Baby, do I?
I decided to find a country song that I could compare to the play "Othello". The song is mainly about a relationship, and he's not sure if they're going downhill and all he can think about is if he's enough for her. Also, a line from the song goes "Now I'm second guessing everything I see", this relates to Othello especially because he is led to believe that Desdemona is having an affair with Cassio from proof and what he sees thanks to Iago. Othello's mind is going crazy because all Othello can think about is Desdemona doing this to him. The emotions going through this song definitely reflects towards Othello as well because Othello gave Desdemona practically everything he is, and if he think she's cheating on him, he would want to know if he's good enough for her.
"Stealing Cinderella"
I came to see her daddy for sit down man to man
It wasn't any secret i'd be asking for her hand
I guess that's why he left me waiting in the living room by myself
with at least a dozen pictures of her sitting on a shelf
[Chorus;]
She was playing Cinderella
She was riding her first bike
Bouncing on the bed and looking for a pillow fight
Running through the sprinkler with a big popsicle grin
Dancing with her dad, looking up at him
In her eyes i'm Prince Charming
But to him i'm just some fella
riding in and stealing Cinderella
I leaned in towards those pictures to get a better look at one
When I heard a voice behind me say "Now, ain't she something, son?"
I said "Yes, she quite a woman" and he just stared at me
Then I realized that in his eyes she would always be
Playing Cinderella
Riding her first bike
Bouncing on the bed and looking for a pillow fight
Running through the sprinkler with a big popsicle grin
Dancing with her dad, looking up at him
In her eyes i'm Prince Charming
But to him i'm just some fella riding in and stealing Cinderella
He slapped me on the shoulder
Then he called her in the room
When she threw her arms around him
That's when I could see it too
She was Playing Cinderella
Riding her first bike
Bouncing on the bed and looking for a pillow fight
Running through the sprinkler with a big popsicle grin
Dancing with her dad, looking up at him
If he gives me a hard time
I can't blame the fella
I'm the one who's stealing Cinderella
I decided to find a song that would relate to Desdemona, her father, and Othello. In this song the subject is the one of father and the "son in law" figure. At the begining of the song the fater and the man comming to see the girl are pleased of each other, and the father realizes he is an OK guy, just as Rabanchio felt towards Othello when he first meets him. Then further into the song, the man realizes that he has stole the most important thing in the fathers life, (Desdemona), and begins to think of the pain it must have caused for Desdemona's father. The song to me, sounds a lot like an epiphany, where the man has realized how easily he has won over the love for this woman. The sittuation also goes along with Othello, when he learns from Iago, that just as easy as Desdemona chose him over her father, she could very well choose another man (Cassio) over him.
Kim Narunsky
"Cry Me a River" You were my sun
You were my earth
But you didn't know all the ways I loved you, no
So you took a chance
And made other plans
But I bet you didn't think that they would come crashing down, no
You don't have to say, what you did,
I already know, I found out from him
Now there's just no chance, for you and me, there'll never be
And don't it make you sad about it
You told me you loved me
Why did you leave me, all alone
Now you tell me you need me
When you call me, on the phone
Girl I refuse, you must have me confused
With some other guy
Your bridges were burned, and now it's your turn
To cry, cry me a river
Cry me a river-er
Cry me a river
Cry me a river-er, yea yea
I know that they say
That somethings are better left unsaid
It wasn't like you only talked to him and you know it
(Don't act like you don't know it)
All of these things people told me
Keep messing with my head
(Messing with my head)
You should've picked honesty
Then you may not have blown it
(Yea..)
You don't have to say, what you did,
(Don't have to say, what you did)
I already know, I found out from him
(I already know, uh)
Now there's just no chance, for you and me, there'll never be
(No chance, you and me)
And don't it make you sad about it
You told me you loved me
Why did you leave me, all alone
(All alone)
Now you tell me you need me
When you call me, on the phone
(When you call me on the phone)
Girl I refuse, you must have me confused
With some other guy
(I'm not like them baby)
Your bridges were burned, and now it's your turn
(It's your turn)
To cry, cry me a river
(Go on and just)
Cry me a river-er
(Go on and just)
Cry me a river
(Baby go on and just)
Cry me a river-er, yea yea
Oh
(Oh)
The damage is done
So I guess I be leaving
Oh
(Oh)
The damage is done
So I guess I be leaving
Oh
(Oh)
The damage is done
So I guess I be leaving
Oh
(Oh)
The damage is done
So I guess I be... leaving
You don't have to say, what you did,
(Don't have to say, what you did)
I already know, I found out from him
(I already know, uh)
Now there's just no chance, for you and me, there'll never be
(No chance, you and me)
And don't it make you sad about it
This song reflects the emotions Othello goes through when Iago informs him of Desdemona's affair with Cassio. The first few lines relate to how much Othello loved Desdemona and did anything and everything for her. This is followed by the lyrics relating to the fact that she never thought he would find out about her "cheating on him". "You don't have to say what you did, I already know. I found out from him." Can relate to the fact that Othello has heard enough. He had already found out from Iago and he doesn't want an explanation or to know any more. "I know that they say, that somethings are better left unsaid.......All of these things people told me, keep messing with my head" can also relate to the fact that he doesn't want to to hear or know any more, and that he so confused by everything Iago is telling and doesn't know what to believe.
Red "Death of me", Nathaniel Matsuura
I should have seen those signs all around me,
But I was comfortable inside these wounds;
So go ahead and take another piece of me now
While we all bow down to you;
You tear me down and then you pick me up,
You take it all and still it’s not enough,
You try to tell me you can heal me,
But I’m still bleeding and you’ll be
The death of me!
How can you end my affliction
If you’re the sickness and I’m the cure?
Too long I’ve faked this addiction,
Another sacrifice to make us pure;
You tear me down and then you pick me up,
You take it all and still it’s not enough,
You try to tell me you can heal me,
But I’m still bleeding and you’ll be
The death of me!
(repeat)
I won’t forget;
I cannot forget this;
I won’t forget;
I’ll never forget this;
I won’t forget;
I cannot forget this;
I won’t forget;
I’ll never forget this;
I won’t forget!
I cannot forget this!
I won’t forget!
I’ll never forget!
You know I can never prove this solution;
You aren’t the one that I thought you were;
And so I learn to embrace this illusion,
The line that separates- it starts to blur;
You tear me down and then you pick me up,
You take it all and say it’s not enough,
You try to tell me you can heal me,
But I’m still bleeding and you’ll be
The death of me!
And you’ll be the death of me!
I will not forget!
I cannot forget this!
And you’ll be the death of me!
The tone of this song fits Othello's thoughts and mood after Iago tricks him into believing Desdemona. Death of Me begins with i should have noticed all the signs which is exactly what Othello would have been thinking after Iago decieved him. Then it continues much like how Othello did not want to know and wished he could forget that he thought his wife was cheating the song says I won't forget over and over until it becomes obvious that he wants to forget. This song is about being betrayed and how it makes it feel like the end of life which is exactly how Othello felt.
The Offspring "Spare Me the Details", Russell Washabaugh My girlfriend, my dumb donut
Went out to a party just the other night
But three hours later and seven shots of jäger,
She was in the bedroom with another guy
And I don't really wanna know
So don't tell me anymore
And I really don't wanna hear
About her feet all up in the air
And well, I'm not the one who acted like a ho
Why must I be the one who has to know?
I'm not the one who messed up big time
So spare me the details, if you don't mind
Now I can understand friends who wanna tell me
Think they're gonna help me open up my eyes
But the play-by-play makes me want to lose it
Everytime you do it, man, it turns the knife
And I don't really wanna know
So don't tell me anymore
And i really don't wanna hear
About her feet all up in the air
And well, I'm not the one who acted like a ho
Why must I be the one who has to know?
I'm not the one who messed up big time
So spare me the details, if you don't mind
Now I don't need to hear about the sounds they were making
And I don't need to hear about how long it was taking
Or how the walls, they were shaking
Now I'm lying in bed, wallowing in sorrow
Missing the tomorrow that we could have had
Running through my head, over and over
Things I never told her now just make me sad
And it drives me insane, sitting with a vision
Stuck with that image burned into my brain
And I feel so dumb that I could ever trust her
While someone else fucked her, then walked away
And I don't really wanna know
So don't tell me anymore
And I really don't wanna hear
About her feet all up in the air
And so, I'm not the one who acted like a ho
Why must I be the one who has to know?
I'm not the one who messed up big time
So spare me the details, if you don't mind
(Cause I don't wanna know)
(Don't wanna know) Spare me the details if you don't mind
(Don't wanna know)Spare me the Details" fits when Iago is telling Othello about how Desdemona apparently "hooked up" with Cassio. The chorus of the song is what Othello was saying to Iago, which (Don't wanna know) Spare me the details if you don't mind
The tone of " basically was do not tell me anymore about what they did. Later in the song it says "missing the tomorrow that we could have had" and Othello was telling Iago that if what he said is true that he would defiantly end things with Desdemona (violently). This song is about how he found out his girlfriend cheated on him and he doesn't want to hear about what they did because "it turns the knife".
You finally said your leaving me
And I accept that it's true
Love was so deceiving
You know I never ever knew that
-Chorus-
(You were through)
Your heart was somewhere else
(You were through)
You were loving someone new
(We were never ever one)
We were never ever one
(We were two)
I've been living in my make believe
I've been refusing to see
The love that I thought I saw in your eyes
Was never there for me
-Chorus-
So don't you say
{I told you so)
How was i suppose to know
(You were through)
You were loving someone new
(We were never ever one)
We were never ever one
(We were two)
-Bridge-
You know time and time again
I asked you to let your feelings show
You know I can't read your mind
You gotta let me know
All the while I was loving you
You thought I never knew, I never knew..
This song by Lalah Hathaway
The tone of this song portrays Othello’s emotions at the end of Act III. At the end of Act III Othello feels betrayed by his wife Desdemona and suspected she had feelings for another man, Cassio. Othello never suspected Desdemona would cheat until Iago begun to fill his head with half-truths. As a result of the seeds Iago planted into Othello’s head, and Desdemona pestering Othello about Cassio trying to help him get his job back he began to feel insecure distance himself from her. This song by Lalah Hathaway demonstrates Othello’s feelings in the way that he suspects she is cheating and how it has made him feel. Although he does not have factual evidence it seems as though he will believe Iago over his own wife and consequently end their relationship that began as a fresh start and will end in a tragedy.
"Love Drunk" Boys Like Girls--Valerie Maffei
Love Drunk lyrics Songwriters:
Hollander, Sam; Johnson, Martin; Katz, David;
Hey, hey, hey, hey
Top down in the summer sun
The day we met was like a hit and run
And I still taste it on my tongue
(Taste it on my tongue)
The sky was burning up like fireworks
You made me want you, oh, so bad it hurt
But girl, in case you haven't heard
I used to be love drunk, but now I'm hungover
I love you forever, forever is over
We used to kiss all night, now it's just a bar fight
So don't call me crying, say hello then goodbye
(Oh yeah!)
There's just one thing would make me say
(Oh yeah!)
I used to be love drunk, but now I'm hungover
I love you forever, but now it's over
(Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey)
Hot sweat and blurry eyes
We're spinning on a roller coaster ride
The world stuck in black and white
(Stuck in black and white)
You drove me crazy every time we touched
Now I'm so broken that I can't get up
Oh girl, you make me such a lush
I used to be love drunk, but now I'm hungover
I love you forever, forever is over
We used to kiss all night, now it's just a bar fight
So don't call me crying, say hello then goodbye
(Oh yeah!)
There's just one thing would make me say
(Oh yeah!)
I used to be love drunk, but now I'm hungover
I love you forever, but now it's over
All the time I wasted on you
All the bullshit you put me through
I'm checking into rehab 'cause everything that we had
Didn't mean a thing to you
I used to be love drunk, but now I'm hungover
I love you forever, but now I'm sober
I used to be love drunk, but now I'm hungover
I love you forever, forever is over
We used to kiss all night, now it's just a bar fight
So don't call me crying, say hello then goodbye
(Oh yeah!)
There's just one thing would make me say
(Oh yeah!)
I used to be love drunk, but now I'm hungover
I love you forever, but now it's over
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na
Now it's over, I still taste it on my tongue
Na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na
Na, na, na, na, na, na
Now it's over
I chose this song to represent Othello's emotions towards Desdemona after Iago plants the seeds of adultery in his mind. The song pretty much represented Othello's strong feelings for Desdemona were so strong that he was kind of drunk on love and didn't believe that Desdemona could do that to him. Then after Iago planted the implications of adultery Othello's promised forever love was no more. Also how the song talks about "the world stuck in black and white" sort of symbolizes how Othello's world saw him and Desdemona and he thought over coming that would have connected them in love forever. Another part that I really liked was "I'm checking into rehab 'cause everything that we had, Didn't mean a thing to you" because it's almost exactly how Othello feels when he starts to really believe Iago's implications that everything him and Desdemona had meant nothing to her.
I'm coming out of my cage,
And I've been doing just fine
Gotta gotta gotta be down,
Because I want it all
It started out with a kiss,
How did it end up like this
It was only a kiss, it was only a kiss
Now I'm falling asleep
And she's calling a cab
While he's having a smoke
And she's taking a drag
Now they're going to bed
And my stomach is sick
And it's all in my head
But she's touching his chest
Now, he takes off her dress
Now, letting me go
And I just can't look it's killing me
And taking control
Jealousy, turning saints into the sea
Swimming through sick lullabies
Choking on your alibis
But it's just the price I pay
Destiny is calling me
Open up my eager eyes
'Cause I'm Mr. Brightside
I'm coming out of my cage,
And I've been doing just fine
Gotta gotta gotta be down,
Because I want it all
It started out with a kiss,
How did it end up like this
It was only a kiss, it was only a kiss
Now I'm falling asleep
And she's calling a cab
While he's having a smoke
And she's taking a drag
Now they're going to bed
And my stomach is sick
And it's all in my head
But she's touching his chest
Now, he takes off her dress
Now, let me go
Cause I just can't look its killing me,
And taking control
Jealousy, turning saints into the sea
Swimming through sick lullabies
Choking on your alibis
But it's just the price I pay
Destiny is calling me
Open up my eager eyes
'Cause I'm Mr. Brightside
Mr. Brightside by The Killers, is a great representation of Othello’s feelings for Desdemona. Mr. Brightside is a song about a guy who is suspicious that his girlfriend is cheating with another man, much like Othello being suspicious of Cassio having an affair with Desdemona. The character in the song is also jealous of what this other man could be doing to his girlfriend during the times he’s not with her. “Now their going to bed. And my stomach is sick.” Othello feels the exact same about Desdemona, especially during the scene when he passes out. During this scene, he psyches himself out by thinking about what Desdemona and Cassio could have done together, “Lie with her! Lie on Her!“
"C'mere"
Amanda Stankis
It's way too late to be this locked inside ourselves
The trouble is that you're in love with someone else
It should be me. Oh, it should be me
Sacred parts, your get aways
You come along on summer days
Tenderly, tastefully
And so may, we make time
Try to find somebody else
This place is mine
You said today, you know exactly how I feel
I had my doubts little girl
I'm in love with something real
It could be me, that's changing!
And so may, we make time
To try and find somebody else
Who has a line
Now season with health
Two lovers walk a lakeside mile
Try pleasing with stealth, rodeo
See what stands long ending fast
Oh, how I love you
And in the evening, when we are sleeping
We are sleeping. Oh, we are sleeping
And so may, we make time
We try to find somebody else
Who has a line
Now season with health
Two lovers walk a lakeside mile
Try pleasing with stealth, rodeo
See what stands long ending fast
Othello is deeply convinced that Desdemona is having an affair so when I heard the lyrics "The trouble is that you're in love with someone else - it should be me", automatically reminded me of how Othello first acted when he heard the rumor that Desdemona was cheating on him. "You said today, you know exactly how I feel" represents how Desdemona would talk to Othello on a personal level and how she understands him (the reason they fell in love). The line "It could be me, that's changing" absolutely 100% reminded me of Othello and how his personality changed so drastically.
Nobody wants to see us together
But it Don't Matter no (cause i got you)
Nobody wants to see us together

Cause we gonna fight, oh yes we gonna fight (we gonna fight)

You dont even have to call (have to call)
Or even check for me at all (me at all)
Cause the way ive been acting lately (ive been acting)
Has been off the wall (off the wall)
Especially towards you (towards you)
And the girls before you (before you)
And they've watching everything ive been doing
Just To hurt you (hurt you)

And they wont show you (show you)
How much of a queen you are to me
And why i love you baby
Nobody wants to see us together
But it don't matter no (cause i got you)
Nobody wants to see us together
But it don't matter no (cause i got you )
Cause we gonna fight, oh yes we gonna fight (we gonna fight)
Believe we gonna fight (we gonna fight)
Fight for our right to love yah (right to love yah)
Nobody wants to see us together
But it don't matter no (cause i got you)
The whole song is about other people trying to ruin the relationship between this couple. At the beginning of the play, Othello was deeply in love with Desdemona. The line "Nobody wants to see us together. But it don't matter no (cause i got you)" portrayed the idea that even though Othello is black and receives many oppositions toward his relationship with Desdemona, they were still married and in love. Desdemona was willing to "fight for love", willing to betray her father in order to be with Othello. However, as the play progressed, their relationship crumbled down because of the lies told by Iago. Othello had these insecurities, or "secrets [he] held inside" that contributed to their downfall.
Ali Watkins: This Providence - Wolf In Sheep's Clothing Oh, you're throwing everything you have at me
cheap shots, low blows
will you ever let it go
you're so pathetic
give it a rest
you're not gonna win
you're never gonna
You love the sound of your own voice
in a crown of death upon your head
come on, you and all your royalty
on the edge of infamy
you're going to taste my fist
You're so good at stretching the truth,
into a sugar coated lie.
Everyone takes a bite.
I have been dining with the enemy.
It was a wolf in sheep's clothing.
Now it's so clear to me.
Oh-hhh-ohh
I've had enough of your games
if you're not trembling, you'd better be
cause we're gonna be the end of you
I've had enough of your games
I'm gonna show them who you really are
And I can tell you right now, it won't be pretty
You say, "I can convince anyone, anything"
provoking the anger of, a jealous God
still you spin a web of lies, fear, lust, pride, greed and shame
you said no one, oh you said no one escapes the pain, pa-a-a-ain.
I've had enough of your games
if you're not trembling, you'd better be
cause we're gonna be the end of you
I've had enough of your games
I'm gonna show them who you really are
And I can tell you right now, it won't be pretty
I'm a coward not a fighter, disguised as a lover
in disguise, in disguise
For so long now, you held me down
you held me, you held me down
you held me down
you held me down for so long
but its not gonna last
cause I can see right through your beautiful lies
I've had enough of your games
if you're not trembling, you'd better be
cause we're gonna be the end of you
I've had enough of your games
I'm gonna show them who you really are
And I can tell you right now, it won't be pretty
Oh you're throwing everything you have at me
cheap shots, low blows
will you ever let it go
you're so pathetic
give it a rest
you're not gonna win
you're never gonna.
"Wolf In Sheep's Clothing" is a song about someone discovering another person's lies, and who is sick it. The tone of the song would be similar to Othello's tone if ever he found out that Iago was lying and "stretching the truth." He would feel betrayed, and very angry at the same time. I feel that this song illustrates the attitude from Othello to Iago when Iago was trying anything to convince Othello that Desdemona was cheating with Cassio. The line "You say, "I can convince anyone, anything" provoking the anger of, a jealous God still you spin a web of lies, fear, lust, pride, greed and shame" perfectly describe Iago's attitude toward every situation where he feels the need to lie. Also, the line "I'm a coward not a fighter, disguised as a lover" describe Othello's feelings once Iago properly convinced him that Desdemona might be cheating on him. He knows he is a minority (coward), and obviously he is an army general (fighter), but he loves Desdemona (lover) so much, that Iago didn't phase him until he brought up the fact that he is different from everyone else.
I heard you're doing okay
But I want you to know
I'm addict
I'm addicted to you
I can't pretend I don't care
When you don't think about me
Do you think I deserve this?
I tried to make you happy but you left anyway
I'm trying to forget that
I'm addicted to you
But I want it and I need it
I'm addicted to you
Now it's over
Can't forget what you said
And I never wanna do this again
Heartbreaker
Since the day I met you
And after all we've been through
I'm still addict
I'm addicted to you
I think you know that it's true
I'd run a thousand miles to get you
Do you think I deserve this?
I tried to make you happy
I did all that I could
Just to keep you
But you left anyway
How long will I be waiting?
Until the end of time
I don't know why I'm still waiting
I can't make you mine
Heartbreaker
I'm addicted to you
This song "Addicted" the singer loves someone, but that someone does not love the singer back. And the singer is addicted to that someone. He canot stop thinking about that person and cannot get over that person. The singer is just like Roderigo. Roderigo is in love with Othello's wife, Desdemona. He has loved her for a love time and she does not love him back. Roderigo cannot forget about her because she is always on her mind. Since Desdemona is always on Roderigo's mind, he becomes addicted to her. Roderigo even paid Iago to help set him up with Desdemona. This shows that love is addicting and that it will make you do crazy things.

Madness By Deltron 3030
-Before listening and reading, I felt this song captured the feelings and position of Othello within the entire story. With the exception of a portion of the lyrics, many parts of the song can be adapted to the character himself.
madness - DELTRON 3030
In the year three thousand and thirty everybody wants to be an mc
In the year three thousand and thirty everybody want to be a dj
In the year three thousand and thirty everybody want to be a
producer
In the year three thousand and thirty
everybody want to tell ya the meaning of the music
I must appeal to you people with your faculties
Cuz everybody else is gonna laugh at me
People try to get over and take a crack at me
The universe is one and I can see what rap can be glorious
Put in the Smithsonium my podiums for holy hymns
But you see whos controlling them
Fk myself off cuz of the egotistical mode I'm in
No I can't slap you no five
When you and your cutty is talkin shit about me outside
People take pride in what they have no hand in
Sorta like a phantom holographic handsome
But deep inside he wants to do what his man done
Just because his peers jeer and and clown
When your six foot deep no one hears you now
They say were not compatible like deers and cows and owls
So many rules and regulations say you're not allowed
I'm caught in the grip of the city Madness (X4)
If I had to describe the way I survive its like vice squeezin
The reason I'm black and still breathin
Heathens will breed heathens so
Everybody's suspect I must check your ID
Cuz you lookin sheisty you might be intelligence
Someone that Del's against
Opposite or positive
When I drop the law against nature be faithful
Why should I hate you we ain't that different
We may act differen't in some ways
But we still grouped together like a fkin survey
Sufferin and fk em all's the motto
I'm trapped in a bottle
My music's gettin hollow
That's what happens when humanity you follow
Where every leak or info is hard to swallow
Sell your Marlboros and car insurance
Put niggas on the moon and can't pay your burdens
I smoke herb and rock a turban
Meditate on the world and whats occurrin
A lot of white boys like the style and copy
Dig in something deeper and youll peep that were not free
It's not about the seperation its about the population
Simple minded people always poin't the finger
To bring it to a close as if life is their role, their path
When all paths are intersections
It all depends on the persons perception
When I'm mad as f**k you get shot
To tis(?) so is bad luck
I believe you held something back for too long
It grew strong
And enegy has its own will
And people think they make music still
But music is there with out you or me we just manipulate
For better or worse so let it situate
I get to make records and dough
Paid out the ass hole
And still seen as another face on the totem pole
Conquer, my sponsors are monsters
And everybody thinks that I owe them one
I'm glad I love music and life
cuz it's easy to see the pain and strife and end it all tonight
Directions: Find a song that you believe captures the meaning of a scene we have reviewed in Othello. At this point, Othello has gone through a range of emotions, quickly moving from a trusting husband to a murderous villain with plans to kill both Cassio and Desdemona. We have also see Othello and Iago swear to work in allegiance together. Additionally, we have reviewed topics on reputation, the ability to control emotion, and revenge. With so many terrific themes to work with, you should be able to pick out a great song for this project.

I chose "high school never ends" by bowling for soup as my song to represent the plot of Othello. After discussing typical high school scenerios about reputation and reasons why someone would get involved in a situation they had nothing to do with in class, I saw the relation in Othello. The importance of "reputation, reputation, reputation!" is repeated throuhgout the play and is obviously important in high school. Iago is the one getting too involved in Othello's case when Cassio holds the position Iago longs for. Iago vows to get revenge, a typical scenerio of something that would happen in high school. This song may not relate to a specific scene in the play, but the lyrics do capture an overall theme that "nothing changes but the faces, the names and the trends".

Check Yes Juliet By We the Kings
Check yes Juliet
Are you with me?
Rain is falling down on the sidewalk
I won't go until you come outside.
Check yes Juliet
Kill the limbo
I'll keep tossing rocks at your window
There's no turning back for us tonight.
Lace up your shoes
Eh Oh Eh Ohhh
Here's how we do:
Run, baby, run
Don't ever look back.
They'll tear us apart
If you give them the chance.
Don't sell your heart.
Don't say we're not meant to be.
Run, baby, run.
Forever we'll be
You and me.
Check yes Juliet
I'll be waiting
Wishing, wanting
Yours for the taking.
Just sneak out
And don't tell a soul goodbye.
Check yes Juliet
Here's the countdown
3... 2... 1... now fall in my arms now
They can change the locks
Don't let them change your mind
Lace up your shoes
Eh Oh Eh Ohhh
Here's how we do
Run, baby, run
Don't ever look back
They'll tear us apart
If you give them the chance
Don't sell your heart
Don't say we are not meant to be
Run baby run
Forever we'll be
You and me
We're flying through the night
We're flying through the night
Way up high,
The view from here is getting better with
You by my side
Run baby run
Don't ever look back
They'll tear us apart
If you give them the chance
Don't sell your heart
Don't say we are not meant to be
Run baby run
Forever we'll be...
Run baby run
Don't ever look back
They'll tear us apart
If you give them the chance
Don't sell your heart
Don't say we are not meant to be
Run baby run
Forever we'll be
You and me
You and me
You and me
This song Check Yes Juliet relates to the play Othello directly. During the play Othello marries a girl Desdemona while her dad is sleeping. When he finds out he immediately tries to split them up. This song is about someone trying to split up a couple or keep them away from eachother. It occurs quite often in the play as Brabantio tries to seperate Desdemaona and Othello and then when Iago tries to make it seem like Desdemona is betraying and cheating on Othello with Cassio. Iago is telling Othello these lies so Iago can move up to lt. Iago or even general. Its Iagos way of revenge.

Blink 182 I Miss You
Hello there, the angel from my nightmare
The shadow in the background of the morgue
The unsuspecting victim of darkness in the valley
We can live like Jack and Sally if we want
Where you can always find me
We'll have Halloween on Christmas
And in the night we'll wish this never ends
We'll wish this never ends
Don't waste your time on me you're already
The voice inside my head (I miss you miss you)
Don't waste your time on me you're already
The voice inside my head (I miss you miss you)
Where are you and I'm so sorry
I cannot sleep I cannot dream tonight
I need somebody and always
This sick strange darkness
Comes creeping on so haunting every time
And as I stared I counted
Webs from all the spiders
Catching things and eating their insides
Like indecision to call you
and hear your voice of treason
Will you come home and stop this pain tonight
Stop this pain tonight
Don't waste your time on me you're already
The voice inside my head (miss you miss you)
Don't waste your time on me you're already
The voice inside my head (miss you miss you)
Don't waste your time on me you're already
The voice inside my head (I miss you miss you)
Don't waste your time on me you're already
The voice inside my head (I miss you miss you)
The song I miss You by Blink 182 represents how Othello feels about Desdemona cheating on him. In the second verse of the song, the song has a significant quote saying "I cannot sleep I cannot dream tonight". The quote is significant because Othello is a victim of not being able to sleep since he thinks Desdemona has cheated on him. Another significant quote is "and hear your voice of treason." The quote is relevant to Othello's situation because he feels betrayed by Desdemona. Othello is so betrayed, he now has zero trust in Desdemona. In the end, Othello does fit into the song I Miss You because of his emotions towards Desdemona.

Atreyu A Song For The Optimists
And destroy my best hopes;
F* up the only things (that I love).
I watched my aspirations crash into the ground
On the backs of the angels that I've slain.
But I meant so well;
I tried so hard;
Gave every bit of my soul;
To what end?
To what end?
Desolation, desire, exhale, pass away.
Desolation, desire, exhale, pass away.
Desolation, desire, exhale, pass away.

Chuck Willis My Story Lyrics:

Bye Bye Bye - 'N Sync
(Hey, Hey)
Bye, Bye, Bye
Bye, Bye...
Bye, Bye...
Oh, Oh..

"Cry Me a River"
You were my sun
You were my earth
But you didn't know all the ways I loved you, no
So you took a chance
And made other plans
But I bet you didn't think that they would come crashing down, no
You don't have to say, what you did,
I already know, I found out from him
Now there's just no chance, for you and me, there'll never be
And don't it make you sad about it
You told me you loved me
Why did you leave me, all alone
Now you tell me you need me
When you call me, on the phone
Girl I refuse, you must have me confused
With some other guy
Your bridges were burned, and now it's your turn
To cry, cry me a river
Cry me a river-er
Cry me a river
Cry me a river-er, yea yea
I know that they say
That somethings are better left unsaid
It wasn't like you only talked to him and you know it
(Don't act like you don't know it)
All of these things people told me
Keep messing with my head
(Messing with my head)
You should've picked honesty
Then you may not have blown it
(Yea..)
You don't have to say, what you did,
(Don't have to say, what you did)
I already know, I found out from him
(I already know, uh)
Now there's just no chance, for you and me, there'll never be
(No chance, you and me)
And don't it make you sad about it
You told me you loved me
Why did you leave me, all alone
(All alone)
Now you tell me you need me
When you call me, on the phone
(When you call me on the phone)
Girl I refuse, you must have me confused
With some other guy
(I'm not like them baby)
Your bridges were burned, and now it's your turn
(It's your turn)
To cry, cry me a river
(Go on and just)
Cry me a river-er
(Go on and just)
Cry me a river
(Baby go on and just)
Cry me a river-er, yea yea
Oh
(Oh)
The damage is done
So I guess I be leaving
Oh
(Oh)
The damage is done
So I guess I be leaving
Oh
(Oh)
The damage is done
So I guess I be leaving
Oh
(Oh)
The damage is done
So I guess I be... leaving
You don't have to say, what you did,
(Don't have to say, what you did)
I already know, I found out from him
(I already know, uh)
Now there's just no chance, for you and me, there'll never be
(No chance, you and me)
And don't it make you sad about it
This song reflects the emotions Othello goes through when Iago informs him of Desdemona's affair with Cassio. The first few lines relate to how much Othello loved Desdemona and did anything and everything for her. This is followed by the lyrics relating to the fact that she never thought he would find out about her "cheating on him". "You don't have to say what you did, I already know. I found out from him." Can relate to the fact that Othello has heard enough. He had already found out from Iago and he doesn't want an explanation or to know any more. "I know that they say, that somethings are better left unsaid.......All of these things people told me, keep messing with my head" can also relate to the fact that he doesn't want to to hear or know any more, and that he so confused by everything Iago is telling and doesn't know what to believe.
Red "Death of me", Nathaniel Matsuura
I should have seen those signs all around me,
But I was comfortable inside these wounds;
So go ahead and take another piece of me now
While we all bow down to you;
You tear me down and then you pick me up,
You take it all and still it’s not enough,
You try to tell me you can heal me,
But I’m still bleeding and you’ll be
The death of me!
How can you end my affliction
If you’re the sickness and I’m the cure?
Too long I’ve faked this addiction,
Another sacrifice to make us pure;
You tear me down and then you pick me up,
You take it all and still it’s not enough,
You try to tell me you can heal me,
But I’m still bleeding and you’ll be
The death of me!
(repeat)
I won’t forget;
I cannot forget this;
I won’t forget;
I’ll never forget this;
I won’t forget;
I cannot forget this;
I won’t forget;
I’ll never forget this;
I won’t forget!
I cannot forget this!
I won’t forget!
I’ll never forget!
You know I can never prove this solution;
You aren’t the one that I thought you were;
And so I learn to embrace this illusion,
The line that separates- it starts to blur;
The Offspring "Spare Me the Details", Russell Washabaugh
My girlfriend, my dumb donut
The chorus of the song is what Othello was saying to Iago, which
(Don't wanna know) Spare me the details if you don't mind
The tone of " basically was do not tell me anymore about what they did. Later in the song it says "missing the tomorrow that we could have had" and Othello was telling Iago that if what he said is true that he would defiantly end things with Desdemona (violently). This song is about how he found out his girlfriend cheated on him and he doesn't want to hear about what they did because "it turns the knife".
11 We Were 2.wma - Chanelle Caple
We Were 2 by Lalah Hathaway
You finally said your leaving me
And I accept that it's true
Love was so deceiving
You know I never ever knew that
-Chorus-
(You were through)
Your heart was somewhere else
(You were through)
You were loving someone new
(We were never ever one)
We were never ever one
(We were two)
I've been living in my make believe
I've been refusing to see
The love that I thought I saw in your eyes
Was never there for me
-Chorus-
So don't you say
{I told you so)
How was i suppose to know
(You were through)
You were loving someone new
(We were never ever one)
We were never ever one
(We were two)
-Bridge-
You know time and time again
I asked you to let your feelings show
You know I can't read your mind
You gotta let me know
All the while I was loving you
You thought I never knew, I never knew..
This song by Lalah Hathaway
The tone of this song portrays Othello’s emotions at the end of Act III. At the end of Act III Othello feels betrayed by his wife Desdemona and suspected she had feelings for another man, Cassio. Othello never suspected Desdemona would cheat until Iago begun to fill his head with half-truths. As a result of the seeds Iago planted into Othello’s head, and Desdemona pestering Othello about Cassio trying to help him get his job back he began to feel insecure distance himself from her. This song by Lalah Hathaway demonstrates Othello’s feelings in the way that he suspects she is cheating and how it has made him feel. Although he does not have factual evidence it seems as though he will believe Iago over his own wife and consequently end their relationship that began as a fresh start and will end in a tragedy.
"Love Drunk" Boys Like Girls--Valerie Maffei
Love Drunk lyrics Songwriters:Hollander, Sam; Johnson, Martin; Katz, David;
Hey, hey, hey, heyTop down in the summer sun

It started out with a kiss,
How did it end up like this
It was only a kiss, it was only a kiss
Now I'm falling asleep
And she's calling a cab
While he's having a smoke
And she's taking a drag
Now they're going to bed
And my stomach is sick
And it's all in my head
But she's touching his chest
Now, he takes off her dress
Now, letting me go
And I just can't look it's killing me
And taking control
Jealousy, turning saints into the sea
Swimming through sick lullabies
Choking on your alibis
But it's just the price I pay
Destiny is calling me
Open up my eager eyes
'Cause I'm Mr. Brightside
I'm coming out of my cage,
And I've been doing just fine
Gotta gotta gotta be down,
Because I want it all
It started out with a kiss,
How did it end up like this
It was only a kiss, it was only a kiss
Now I'm falling asleep
And she's calling a cab
While he's having a smoke
And she's taking a drag
Now they're going to bed
And my stomach is sick
And it's all in my head
But she's touching his chest
Now, he takes off her dress
Now, let me go
Cause I just can't look its killing me,
And taking control
Jealousy, turning saints into the sea
Swimming through sick lullabies
Choking on your alibis
But it's just the price I pay
Destiny is calling me
Open up my eager eyes
'Cause I'm Mr. Brightside
Mr. Brightside by The Killers, is a great representation of Othello’s feelings for Desdemona. Mr. Brightside is a song about a guy who is suspicious that his girlfriend is cheating with another man, much like Othello being suspicious of Cassio having an affair with Desdemona. The character in the song is also jealous of what this other man could be doing to his girlfriend during the times he’s not with her. “Now their going to bed. And my stomach is sick.” Othello feels the exact same about Desdemona, especially during the scene when he passes out. During this scene, he psyches himself out by thinking about what Desdemona and Cassio could have done together, “Lie with her! Lie on Her!“

It's way too late to be this locked inside ourselves
The trouble is that you're in love with someone else
It should be me. Oh, it should be me
Sacred parts, your get aways
You come along on summer days
Tenderly, tastefully
And so may, we make time
Try to find somebody else
This place is mine
You said today, you know exactly how I feel
I had my doubts little girl
I'm in love with something real
It could be me, that's changing!
And so may, we make time
To try and find somebody else
Who has a line
Now season with health
Two lovers walk a lakeside mile
Try pleasing with stealth, rodeo
See what stands long ending fast
Oh, how I love you
And in the evening, when we are sleeping
We are sleeping. Oh, we are sleeping
And so may, we make time
We try to find somebody else
Who has a line
Now season with health
Two lovers walk a lakeside mile
Try pleasing with stealth, rodeo
See what stands long ending fast
Othello is deeply convinced that Desdemona is having an affair so when I heard the lyrics "The trouble is that you're in love with someone else - it should be me", automatically reminded me of how Othello first acted when he heard the rumor that Desdemona was cheating on him. "You said today, you know exactly how I feel" represents how Desdemona would talk to Othello on a personal level and how she understands him (the reason they fell in love). The line "It could be me, that's changing" absolutely 100% reminded me of Othello and how his personality changed so drastically.

Nobody wants to see us together
But it don't matter no (cause i got you)
The whole song is about other people trying to ruin the relationship between this couple.

This Providence - Wolf In Sheep's Clothing
Oh, you're throwing everything you have at me
cheap shots, low blows
will you ever let it go
you're so pathetic
give it a rest
you're not gonna win
you're never gonna
You love the sound of your own voice
in a crown of death upon your head
come on, you and all your royalty
on the edge of infamy
you're going to taste my fist
You're so good at stretching the truth,
into a sugar coated lie.
Everyone takes a bite.
I have been dining with the enemy.
It was a wolf in sheep's clothing.
Now it's so clear to me.
Oh-hhh-ohh
I've had enough of your games
if you're not trembling, you'd better be
cause we're gonna be the end of you
I've had enough of your games
I'm gonna show them who you really are
And I can tell you right now, it won't be pretty
You say, "I can convince anyone, anything"
provoking the anger of, a jealous God
still you spin a web of lies, fear, lust, pride, greed and shame
you said no one, oh you said no one escapes the pain, pa-a-a-ain.
I've had enough of your games
if you're not trembling, you'd better be
cause we're gonna be the end of you
I've had enough of your games
I'm gonna show them who you really are
And I can tell you right now, it won't be pretty
I'm a coward not a fighter, disguised as a lover
in disguise, in disguise
For so long now, you held me down
you held me, you held me down
you held me down
you held me down for so long
but its not gonna last
cause I can see right through your beautiful lies
I've had enough of your games
if you're not trembling, you'd better be
cause we're gonna be the end of you
I've had enough of your games
I'm gonna show them who you really are
And I can tell you right now, it won't be pretty
Oh you're throwing everything you have at me
cheap shots, low blows
will you ever let it go
you're so pathetic
give it a rest
you're not gonna win
you're never gonna.
"Wolf In Sheep's Clothing" is a song about someone discovering another person's lies, and who is sick it. The tone of the song would be similar to Othello's tone if ever he found out that Iago was lying and "stretching the truth." He would feel betrayed, and very angry at the same time. I feel that this song illustrates the attitude from Othello to Iago when Iago was trying anything to convince Othello that Desdemona was cheating with Cassio. The line "You say, "I can convince anyone, anything" provoking the anger of, a jealous God still you spin a web of lies, fear, lust, pride, greed and shame" perfectly describe Iago's attitude toward every situation where he feels the need to lie. Also, the line "I'm a coward not a fighter, disguised as a lover" describe Othello's feelings once Iago properly convinced him that Desdemona might be cheating on him. He knows he is a minority (coward), and obviously he is an army general (fighter), but he loves Desdemona (lover) so much, that Iago didn't phase him until he brought up the fact that he is different from everyone else.

I heard you're doing okay
But I want you to know
I'm addict
I'm addicted to you
I can't pretend I don't care
When you don't think about me
Do you think I deserve this?
I tried to make you happy but you left anyway
I'm trying to forget that
I'm addicted to you
But I want it and I need it
I'm addicted to you
Now it's over
Can't forget what you said
And I never wanna do this again
Heartbreaker
Since the day I met you
And after all we've been through
I'm still addict
I'm addicted to you
I think you know that it's true
I'd run a thousand miles to get you
Do you think I deserve this?
I tried to make you happy
I did all that I could
Just to keep you
But you left anyway
How long will I be waiting?
Until the end of time
I don't know why I'm still waiting
I can't make you mine
Heartbreaker
I'm addicted to you
This song "Addicted" the singer loves someone, but that someone does not love the singer back. And the singer is addicted to that someone. He canot stop thinking about that person and cannot get over that person. The singer is just like Roderigo. Roderigo is in love with Othello's wife, Desdemona. He has loved her for a love time and she does not love him back. Roderigo cannot forget about her because she is always on her mind. Since Desdemona is always on Roderigo's mind, he becomes addicted to her. Roderigo even paid Iago to help set him up with Desdemona. This shows that love is addicting and that it will make you do crazy things.

Madness By Deltron 3030-Before listening and reading, I felt this song captured the feelings and position of Othello within the entire story. With the exception of a portion of the lyrics, many parts of the song can be adapted to the character himself.
madness - DELTRON 3030
In the year three thousand and thirty everybody wants to be an mc
In the year three thousand and thirty everybody want to be a dj
In the year three thousand and thirty everybody want to be a
producer
In the year three thousand and thirty
everybody want to tell ya the meaning of the music
I must appeal to you people with your faculties
Cuz everybody else is gonna laugh at me
People try to get over and take a crack at me
The universe is one and I can see what rap can be glorious
Put in the Smithsonium my podiums for holy hymns
But you see whos controlling them
Fk myself off cuz of the egotistical mode I'm in
No I can't slap you no five
When you and your cutty is talkin shit about me outside
People take pride in what they have no hand in
Sorta like a phantom holographic handsome
But deep inside he wants to do what his man done
Just because his peers jeer and and clown
When your six foot deep no one hears you now
They say were not compatible like deers and cows and owls
So many rules and regulations say you're not allowed
I'm caught in the grip of the city Madness (X4)
If I had to describe the way I survive its like vice squeezin
The reason I'm black and still breathin
Heathens will breed heathens so
Everybody's suspect I must check your ID
Cuz you lookin sheisty you might be intelligence
Someone that Del's against
Opposite or positive
When I drop the law against nature be faithful
Why should I hate you we ain't that different
We may act differen't in some ways
But we still grouped together like a fkin survey
Sufferin and fk em all's the motto
I'm trapped in a bottle
My music's gettin hollow
That's what happens when humanity you follow
Where every leak or info is hard to swallow
Sell your Marlboros and car insurance
Put niggas on the moon and can't pay your burdens
I smoke herb and rock a turban
Meditate on the world and whats occurrin
A lot of white boys like the style and copy
Dig in something deeper and youll peep that were not free
It's not about the seperation its about the population
Simple minded people always poin't the finger
To bring it to a close as if life is their role, their path
When all paths are intersections
It all depends on the persons perception
When I'm mad as f**k you get shot
To tis(?) so is bad luck
I believe you held something back for too long
It grew strong
And enegy has its own will
And people think they make music still
But music is there with out you or me we just manipulate
For better or worse so let it situate
I get to make records and dough
Paid out the ass hole
And still seen as another face on the totem pole
Conquer, my sponsors are monsters
And everybody thinks that I owe them one
I'm glad I love music and life
cuz it's easy to see the pain and strife and end it all tonight
I'm caught in the grip of the city Madness (X4)
